Herpetology

T.R.E.E.S. is in the heart of the Maya Mountains and is ideally located within a broadleaf forest basin with an extensive riparian forest. This presents ideal habitat for local amphibians and reptiles. A herpetology internship can include training in various herpetological survey techniques including: aural and visual encounter surveys, pitfall traps and radio-telemetry. Interns may also choose to work on our long-term monitoring of the White-lipped Mud Turtle (Kinosternon leucostomum), a study radio-telemetry study that we have been conducting since 2015.
