Birds

One of our most popular programs is our bird internship. This is because the Toucan Ridge Bird Observatory has been banding birds since 2015, and we have a strong conservation program geared toward protecting our migrant and resident birds in the Maya Mountains of Belize. Bird interns learn basic skills in bird banding including bird ID, extractions, ageing, sexing, morphometric data collection and the basics of working at an official banding station. Belize is a haven for birders boasting 518 different species of birds among our various habitat types including coastal, broadleaf and savannah.
